X-RAY EQUIPMENT
PERFORMANCE
EVALUATIONS
KEEP YOUR X-RAY COMPLIANT, ACCURATE & READY
X-ray equipment plays an important role in diagnosis and patient care. An Equipment Performance Evaluation, or EPE, helps verify that your equipment is operating properly and meeting Texas requirements.
What Is an EPE?
It is more than just an inspection. The evaluation verifies that your
x-ray is producing radiation appropriately and operating within required performance standards. Texas DSHS requires the results to include actual measurements and a pass/fail determination for the requred tests.
When Does My Dental Office
Need an EPE?
Texas requirements for dental X-ray equipment:

New Installation
Within 30 Days
An EPE is required within 30 days after the initial installation of a dental radiation machine.

Reinstallation
Within 30 Days
If an X-ray machine is relocated and reinstalled, an EPE is required within 30 days.

Certain Repairs
Within 30 Days
An EPE may be required after repair of components that affect radiation output, such as the timer, tube, or power supply.

Routine EPE
Every 4 Years
Dental intraoral, panoramic, cephalometric X-ray systems require an EPE at intervals not exceeding four years.

Dental CBCT
Annually
Dental CT/CBCT systems require an EPE annually, with the interval not exceeding 14 months.
What Does an EPE Test?
Your evaluation includes testing of key X-ray performance factors.

Timer Accuracy
Verifies proper exposure
timing and operation.

Tube Stability
Verifies that the X-ray tube remains properly positioned and stable during exposure.

Exposure Reproducibility
Confrims repeated exposures
remain consistent.

Collimation
Evaluate proper limitation of the X-ray field.

kVp Accuracy
Checks whether the selected kilovoltage matches the unit's actual output.

Entrance Exposure (Air Kerma)
Measure radiation output against applicable limits.

Is Your X-Ray EPE Coming Due?
Don't wait until an inspection to find out your dental X-ray equipment is overdue for evaluation. We help dental practices with affordable prices stay compliant and on schedule with their EPE requirements.
What You Receive From Your EPE?
Clear results, Proper documentation.

Recorded
Measurements
Numerical results for each required test.

Pass or Fail
Results
Clear pass or fail results for each tests.

Required
Corrections
Identification of any equipment that requires correction.

Documentation for
Compliance
Complete EPE report to maintain with your X-ray compliance records.
